A land Remembered

 For my post this week I have decided to focus on Tobias. He is an interesting character. With the hardships, he and his family go through. For example, living in Florida's harsh environment, a lack of food, lack of supplies. He has a lot of strong character traits that I would like to Highlight. He is a hard worker, a kind man to natives and his family, and stays strong and positive for him his family. All in all, he is an example of a man who, despite his harsh surroundings has stayed true to himself as well as stayed strong for himself and his family. Due to the conditions of his life, he could have turned into a very different man and people would not have blamed him for it. Though he is a fictional character he is a great symbol of what people settling in Florida went through and how they used their surroundings and hard work to become successful.

    Hi! I can agree that Tobias is an important person in A Land Remembered. He is one of the main protagonists and he keeps his family safe through hard times. He listens to his guts and focuses on doing the right thing. He teaches Zech the many things he needs to know to survive in the wilderness, and brings along several friends, like Frog, Bonzo, and Skillit.

Historical Florida Site Visit

I decided to visit Walter Jones Historical park in Mandarin for my site visit. I went with my sister and niece on Thursday the 6th in the afternoon. We spent about an hour here. I used to live in mandarin so I would come here a lot. The park has many buildings, trees, and a dock out to the St.Johns River. This is the house of Major William Wirt Webb. He was a united states officer during the civil war. He also served as postmaster from 1906 to 1964 with his daughter Agnes (Mandarin Museum Historical Society, n.d.). Here are a few more pictures of me and my family enjoying the park. I think it's interesting how I had been to this park many times but had never looked into its history of it and its importance to Florida. Like many things, I am learning in this class. The Calusas, cracker cowboys, and now this park has been added to my knowledge of Florida history and I am happy to be able to broaden my knowledge of Florida through this class. They all come together in interesting ways...

Historic Site Trip 2

 For my second historic site I was planning on going to Castillo de San Marcos. I was planning on going on Thursday but ironically, living in Florida had me bunkered down and stuck inside for hurricane Nicole. Luckily all was well after the hurricane but I was not able to make it to the Fort. St. Augustine is one of my favorite places and I have been to the fort pretty recently and decided that I would speak on that experience until I can visit the site next week and update this post with my new findings!  On my most recent visit to the port I went with my mother. It was close to my birthday and since St. Augustine is a favorite place of mine we went to the fort together. We spent the whole day in St. Augustine but probably about an hour at the fort. As always it was a great experience.
