A land Remembered

For my post this week I have decided to focus on Tobias. He is an interesting character. With the hardships, he and his family go through. For example, living in Florida's harsh environment, a lack of food, lack of supplies. He has a lot of strong character traits that I would like to Highlight. He is a hard worker, a kind man to natives and his family, and stays strong and positive for him his family. All in all, he is an example of a man who, despite his harsh surroundings has stayed true to himself as well as stayed strong for himself and his family. Due to the conditions of his life, he could have turned into a very different man and people would not have blamed him for it. Though he is a fictional character he is a great symbol of what people settling in Florida went through and how they used their surroundings and hard work to become successful.   (1). Who are the authors? Susan Richbourg Parker and William s. Coker. (5). Identify and discuss the issue of "perspective" with regard to Anglo writings of Spanish government. The perspective was disarrayed due to the personal opinions of the English on how they viewed the Spanish people. They enhanced their time when they were in control while making the Spanish period seem less important. They highlighted the bad and misjudgments of the Spanish period instead of having a more open and complete approach. This blurs what was the truth through their perspective (Gannon et al., 2018, p. 162-163).  (2). How did Spain cede one territory and receive two back twenty years later? There were many rebellions and revolts and tho America tried to create a treaty so that they could keep the territory it failed. Th spanish were able to take back St. Agustine and Texas back (Gannon et al., 2018, p.175-176). (5). Describe 2 territories, there locations, capitals, and industries, & re...

Historical Florida Site Visit

I decided to visit Walter Jones Historical park in Mandarin for my site visit. I went with my sister and niece on Thursday the 6th in the afternoon. We spent about an hour here. I used to live in mandarin so I would come here a lot. The park has many buildings, trees, and a dock out to the St.Johns River. This is the house of Major William Wirt Webb. He was a united states officer during the civil war. He also served as postmaster from 1906 to 1964 with his daughter Agnes (Mandarin Museum Historical Society, n.d.). Here are a few more pictures of me and my family enjoying the park. I think it's interesting how I had been to this park many times but had never looked into its history of it and its importance to Florida. Like many things, I am learning in this class. The Calusas, cracker cowboys, and now this park has been added to my knowledge of Florida history and I am happy to be able to broaden my knowledge of Florida through this class. They all come together in interesting ways...
